In the Beginning...

I wouldn't have picked my first career.  But it started before I was old enough to pick much of anything.  At that time I wasn't in control of what I wore or ate or even where I went to the bathroom.  I was a child star.  Well, calling me a star might be a bit of a stretch but I was a model and an actress.

I went out on auditions.  I had an agent.  I made money.  I appeared in magazines and on billboards.  I was in a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. And I went to the same celebrity dentist as the girl from Punky Brewster.

There are plenty of people who dream about what I had, an acting career.  They make amazing personal sacrifices.  Some of them are wearing green aprons right now hoping to get discovered and I admire them for it.  But I hated it.  My first career ended when I was 8.  Who knows what would have happened if my family had stayed in LA, if I had kept going to auditions and kept acting.

I don't regret it, any of it.  I'm glad my parents pushed me into it and I'm glad they let me quit.  It's part of who I am.  It's probably why I can go live on national radio and just have fun.  A few years ago I did a story about this for B-Side Radio. I hope you enjoy it.
